OT tips to go from Katelyn! Want to help boost writing skills at home without making it feel like homework? Pull out some Play-Doh (or pipe cleaners, or slime, or line up some beads) and ask your student to describe the highlight of their day in one word… but they have to write it with Play-Doh! Not only does this support letter formation and spelling, but it builds fine motor skills and hand strength. Plus it’s a fun sensory activity that will help calm your student’s body and explore the world around them.

It’s no secret that vaping is on the rise, especially among teenagers. Tobacco companies specifically targeted their advertisements toward youth, and despite not knowing what the long-term effects might be, many young people in our community have been impacted. As a school district, we want to do all that we can to support students in making healthy lifestyle decisions. We have two staff members, Jill Hutcheson and Nancy Huntley, who have been trained in vaping education courses through the American Lung Association. Over the course of this school year, Jill and Nancy will be offering small group opportunities during the school day for interested students. Please see the program descriptions below, and contact either Nancy or Jill with questions. If you are concerned about your child’s use or potential vulnerability to using tobacco or other drug products, there are links below with additional information about the program and a sign-up to participate in one of the small group opportunities. We will also be sending this information out to all middle and high school students to gauge their interest. https://www.lung.org/quit-smoking/helping-teens-quit/not-on-tobacco Sign up here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1uY7WBTtetKbKpKI8dYmv-lOYbFMXLyN0V2CrqHvd1D8/prefill Jill Hutcheson Tobacco Prevention Specialist hutchesonj@ellsworth.k12.wi.us Nancy Huntley Mental Health Coordinator huntleyn@ellsworth.k12.wi.us 715-273-3911 ext 2128

Help protect your children -- and their classmates -- when they're under the weather so that they can return to the classroom healthy and ready to learn. When your child is sick The best thing you can do is to keep your children home when sick. This will help stop the spread of illness to other children and teachers. Keep them home when they show any of these symptoms: fever of 100 degrees F or higher nausea or vomiting severe headache diarrhea red, watery eyes with yellow or green drainage undiagnosed rash Children should stay home until they have been naturally without fever for at least 24 hours. Please do not give children fever-reducing medication and then send them to school.
