I am hopeful that over the past several weeks you have had the opportunity to become informed about the upcoming facility referendum that is on the ballot next Tuesday, April 2nd. I appreciate the time that our parents and residents have taken to review the information, ask questions, and provide feedback. It is always our primary goal to get information to our residents through a number of avenues to truly inform residents about the projects and the rationale behind the projects.
I often get the question of why we bring referendum questions to the public. The primary reason is that annual school district budgets are not meant to provide for large-scale facility maintenance or building projects. They simply have never been. School Districts are very unique in that we must ask for voter approval for these projects through the referendum process. This process was established to provide the voter the voice in these major financial decisions. With this process, residents truly make the decisions regarding the use of their tax dollars.
The projects coming to all voters on April 2nd are the result of a nearly two-year process of an in-depth study of our facilities to identify our most immediate needs along with a community survey that narrowed the projects based on the feedback we received. They are also the result of a consistent focus on providing quality facilities for our community through ongoing maintenance and planning. Without this process, the projects simply build and become unmanageable.
Bringing a referendum to the voters of the district is not something we ever take lightly. We understand very well the work we need to do to bring responsible projects to the voters and then communicate well why we have brought them to the voters for consideration.
Once again, I thank you very much for taking the time to learn more about the proposed projects. I hope that we have provided you with quality information throughout this past number of weeks. Please remember to vote on April 2nd!
Please visit our school district website at https://www.ellsworth.k12.wi.us/page/facility-referendum-2024 for much more information.

The high school’s current rear lobby and concessions area limits our ability to host school and community events, due to lack of space.
The proposed expansion will more than double the current space while providing secured entry for students and community members to access events and fitness areas.
Remember to vote on Tuesday, April 2.
For more information visit our website at https://www.ellsworth.k12.wi.us/page/facility-referendum-2024

The high school’s current physical education fitness areas are a repurposed classroom and the former wrestling room. They lack space and are located down a hallway from each other leading to safety and supervision challenges.
The proposed plan will remodel and expand the health & physical education/weight room and lobby to meet our program needs while also providing a resource to the community.
Remember to vote on Tuesday, April 2.

The existing locker bays at the middle school are oversized and hard to monitor for student safety.
If the April 2 facilities referendum is approved, the locker bay areas will be redesigned to create open, collaborative learning areas for each grade level, while improving student safety.
Remember to vote on Tuesday, April 2.

The demand for workers in the trades, manufacturing, engineering, and agriculture is growing in our region. Our tech ed (“shop”) classrooms and labs do not reflect the modern work settings.
The April 2 facilities referendum will expand middle and high-level opportunities for students to gain real-world experiences that prepare them for their careers and post-secondary education.
Remember to vote on Tuesday, April 2.

Wow! The Scholastic Book Fair was a huge success thanks to all of the support from EES families. It was amazing to see the excitement from students and families as they searched for the perfect book or some cool pens, erasers and journals. The teachers were thrilled to receive some of the books from their wish lists. Your book fair purchases will help build classroom libraries and provide books for incentives and future literacy events. Keep reading!

This message is going out to all families and staff due to the possibility of inclement weather going into the next number of days. At this time, there are no cancellations of school and this is simply for planning purposes.
Due to our mild winter so far, we have had no inclement weather cancellations to this point. This allows us some flexibility at this time. Due to this, any inclement weather cancellations in the upcoming week will be virtual learning days for students and staff. Emails will be sent by the building-level principals and staff regarding schedules and plans in the cases of inclement weather days.
This plan allows us to continue instruction as we enter the last week of the third quarter and also allows us to keep the Monday, April 1st day scheduled day off of school.
