📚💙 We had a very special visitor at Ellsworth Elementary!
Former ECSD teacher Teri Kulow stopped by to share her brand-new children’s book, Our Friend Pepie, with all of our kindergarten students. The story follows Pepie, a friendly lake monster who helps kids take care of Lake Pepin by cleaning up litter and protecting the water we all love. What a perfect message for our young learners.
The beautiful illustrations were created by Shelly Nelson, former Ellsworth Elementary art teacher, making this project extra special and close to home. Teri read the book to all of the kindergarten classes.
Teri also generously donated a copy of the book to the Ellsworth Elementary Library, so students can enjoy Pepie’s story for years to come.
After teaching in our district for 31 years before retiring in 2019, it was wonderful to welcome Teri back and see her still sharing her love of learning and storytelling with our students. Thank you, Teri, for this meaningful visit and for a story that encourages kindness, community, and caring for our lake. 💜🐾

On January 15, our 4th and 5th graders took part in Ellsworth Elementary’s 3rd annual Career Day, and it was such a great day of learning and exploring.
Fourth graders rotated through seven different speakers, moving to a new classroom every 15 minutes so they could hear from everyone. Fifth graders chose three out of six speakers to visit and spent 30 minutes in each session digging a little deeper into careers that interested them. Before Career Day, our fifth graders also took a short Myers-Briggs personality test, then researched a job that matched their personality. They created career posters for our “neighborhood,” including salary, required education, and other details about each job.
Like always, our speakers were amazing. Hearing people talk about what they do with so much passion helps open our students’ eyes to careers they may have never known about. These kinds of experiences really help students start imagining what their own futures could look like.
A big thank you to all of our speakers who made this day possible:
WI State Patrol
WI DNR
Pierce County Sheriff’s Department
Loberg’s Law Office
Coach Staley
KNN Farms
Brush Strokes
Pierce County Highway Department
Tim Schmit, Pilot
Westconsin Credit Union
Principal Nygaard
Ellsworth Police Department
We are so grateful for our community partners who take the time to invest in our students and share their experiences. 💜🐾

Our second graders wrapped up their government unit on Rules and Laws in a very meaningful way. ❤️
After learning about how rules and laws help keep our communities safe, students enjoyed visits from Officer Paul, Deputy Smith, Deputy Huppert, and K9 Ares. The officers made great connections between what students were learning in class and how it applies in real life here in our community.
As part of the unit, second grade students also collected food and easy to eat snacks for officers from Pierce County, St. Croix County, and the Woodville Police Department. These snacks were chosen with busy schedules in mind and were a small way to say thank you for all they do.
Our students asked thoughtful questions, made great connections to their learning, and showed just how engaged and caring they are. What a great example of learning in action. 💜🐾

It’s Day 67 at ECSD, and you know we weren’t going to let this one pass by. 😄
Since “6-7” is the big trend everyone’s saying this year, we had to join in the fun and celebrate Day 67 in true Panther style.
Thanks for bringing the energy, Panthers… you always keep us smiling! 💜🐾

Fourth graders wrapped up their Unit 1 in science, where they explored animal structures and how animals use these features to gather information from their environment in order to get food and protect themselves.
As an extension of their learning, they had the exciting opportunity for Snake Discovery to visit and present to them. Fourth graders participated in their “Snake, Rattle, and Roll” program. The presentation focused on the reptiles and amphibians that call Minnesota and Wisconsin home. Students had the chance to watch a salamander eat, touch shredded skin, and even hold a large snake for a truly hands on experience! 🐍🦎

Last month our PAC families had the chance to celebrate our hometown heroes at the fire hall with our local fire, police, and EMT teams. It was such a fun community event, and the kids loved seeing the people they read about in books come to life in front of them. These moments of connection and relationship-building mean so much to our students.
A big thank you to our hometown heroes for spending time with us and for everything you do for our community! ❤️

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has released this year’s school and district report cards, and there’s a lot to celebrate.
Ellsworth Elementary School and Ellsworth Middle School earned an Exceeds Expectations rating. Both schools showed impressive growth, and we’re incredibly proud of the hard work happening in those buildings each day.
These results reflect the dedication of our students, staff, families, and community. We’re committed to using this data to guide our work, support continued growth, and ensure success for every learner.
These report cards look at several years of data across four priority areas: Achievement, Growth, Target Group Outcomes, and On-Track to Graduation.
