The high school's current physical education fitness area and weight room lack the space needed for our physical education program and athletic programs. In addition, the current gymnasium lobby and concessions area is inadequate for the hosting of events and celebration of the many achievements of our athletic programs. This week's article and video focus on the Health and Fitness/Lobby projects that are being addressed through our April 2nd Facilities Referendum. The video can be found at the following link: https://youtu.be/wIVwak3KPP0 The senior high school's fitness areas are made up of a repurposed classroom and a room that served as the wrestling room for many years. These areas lack space and are located down a hallway from each other leading to safety and supervision challenges. The proposed new space will nearly double the space available while also developing a space that provides for all physical fitness and weight lifting equipment making these ideal for phy ed classes and athletics. While many initially focus on sports when thinking about a physical fitness area, these are actually spaces that serve our student body on a daily basis through our phy ed classes, athletics and before and after school programs. A quality health and physical education program provides students with a well rounded nutritional education while also providing experiences that develop lifelong skills and habits. In addition, the location of the proposed space will allow for community use before and after school and on weekends. In addition, the proposed expansion of the rear lobby area of the high school will better serve local events. The current lobby and concessions simply lack space to house school and community events. The addition of 1500 square feet will more than double the current space, greatly enhancing the capabilities of the space in a number of ways while also providing for a seamless secured entry area into the proposed health and physical education space. If there are any questions about any of the projects being proposed in the April 2nd Facilities Referendum, please visit our referendum website, give me a call at (715)273-3900 or email me at cainb@ellsworth.k12.wi.us. We are also available for tours of the facilities for all interested in looking firsthand at the areas being impacted by the proposed projects. This spring break marks a major milestone for us as we embark on the installation of our brand-new stage and cafeteria lighting system! 🎉 This week, the team is hard at work, unboxing and installing the incredible array of lights that will soon transform our spaces. In the behind-the-scenes glimpse, you can see the lighting structure on the stage, with the old lights out and the new ones ready to shine. 💡 Catch a sneak peek of the lights being installed, and check out the photo with the ceiling lights showcasing two of the four amazing moving lights that will bring a whole new level of capabilities to our events. But that's not all – we're embracing the future with all lights transitioning to LED technology! 🌈 The project is on track for completion by the end of this week, bringing a vibrant and energy-efficient glow to our stage and cafeteria. And that's not the only upgrade – say goodbye to our old-school lighting control board! 🚀 We're bidding farewell to outdated technology as we welcome a state-of-the-art control board to enhance our lighting experiences.

This week’s article and video focus on the High School Career and Tech Ed (CTE) projects https://youtu.be/aQzg9fmcdlQ that are being addressed through our April 2nd Facilities Referendum. A quality CTE program offers students with real-world experiences that prepare them for the many areas of industry and manufacturing. Career and Technical Education courses focus on preparing students for careers in the much needed trades (welding construction, electrical, etc), business, marketing, entrepreneurship, engineering, agriculture, and the culinary industries. The current 1975 CTE classrooms and labs do not reflect modern work settings or allow for high-quality, real-world experiences for students. The proposed remodeling and expansion of the CTE area will provide our students with centralized collaborative spaces to prepare them for their future careers as well as promote partnerships with many manufacturers and businesses that will provide our economy with a quality workforce. The past two school years have been spent researching model CTE programs while also visiting other school districts to provide a vision for the projects currently being proposed. We have seen the model of “student-led production” in which students involved in all areas of CTE are working together in a business model to provide a high-quality experience for all students involved no matter their post-high school plans. The proposed projects will assist greatly in the implementation of this model.
