Notice of School Board Election

 Elementary SAGE Information
The first meeting of the newly developed SAGE Review Committee was held on October 20, 2009.  The Student Achievement Guarantee in Education (SAGE) Program is a program to improve student achievement through class size reduction in the grades kindergarten through third grade. Our school district currently receives a waiver to allow us to participate in the program. This waiver allows for some flexibility in the class size requirements set by the program.   By February 1, 2010 our school district must submit a plan for how we will meet the requirements of the waiver or risk being removed from the SAGE program. 
The SAGE Review Committee is currently studying the class sizes we presently have for grades kindergarten through third grade and projections for class sizes and staffing levels needed to meet the requirements of the waiver. The committee is also studying the costs associated with the SAGE program and class size projections if the SAGE program is not continued in our district.  Our district currently provides funds for the program above and beyond state funding of the program in the area of $100,000.  Discontinuing the program would lead to larger class sizes in grades kindergarten through third grade along with logistical issues related to classroom use.

Hearts for Haiti!
Prairie View students spent last week collecting money in each of their classrooms.The students were able to work together and raised $925.61 which was sent to the American Red Cross!

Hillcrest students had the opportunity to participate in Hats For Haiti on Friday, January 29.  Each student that donated one dollar was allowed to wear a hat in school on that day. Students raised a total of $442.23 for the American Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti!!!
