The Ellsworth Community School District is a product of the consolidation of several districts. The district has a total population of approximately 13,000 and is comprised of the villages of Bay City, Ellsworth and Maiden Rock and one-half of Pierce County, approximately 250 square miles. The Ellsworth Community School District operates an elementary school, a middle school and a high school. The total enrollment is approximately 1,675 students. Ninety percent of these students are transported on 23 bus routes that cover 1,200 miles per day. The elementary school, the middle school and the high school are all located in Ellsworth, a village with a population of 3,000 which is the county seat of Pierce County. Most residents of the district earn their living by working in nearby cities or by farming. The majority work in River Falls, Red Wing, or the Twin Cities. Many graduates continue their education at universities and colleges close to the Ellsworth Community School District which include the University of Wisconsin River Falls, University of Wisconsin Stout, University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, Red Wing Technical College, Chippewa Valley Technical College, Dakota County technical College and numerous colleges located in the Twin Cities.
